But, alas, the time has come to say goodbye to the old and welcome in the new, to dare to reach one more time to try something new…….TRI-GEN-ZERO.
The 4 SKIES concept recommends repurposing the old GE Taylor Street Plant site into an entirely new type of production facility with the following features:
The technology recommended will be 2,500,000 square feet vertical farm operation utilizing a natural-gas fired power plant with a rated capacity of 50 MW of clean electricity, taking advantage of clean, affordable and plentiful natural gas.
The plant will achieve zero CO2 emissions by matching the CO2 requirements of the vertical farm operations with the CO2 output of the NG power plant.
The vertical farming operations will produce approximately 50,705 metric tons of fresh produce annually with virtually no seasonal limitations on type, quality or quantity.
Waste from vertical farms will be processed on site in anaerobic digesters producing biogas that will be refined into natural gas to be consumed by the NG power plant.
Ancillary facilities involving a water purification plant and a Horticultural R&D centre will be integrated into the project.
The project will provide 500 – 600 construction jobs over an 18-month construction period and 300 – 400 full time jobs during operations and over the 50 year life of the project.
The 4 SKIES concept also recommends adopting the idea of opening up areas within the site for other unique and innovative renewable energy technologies, such as BIPV, bird friendly wind turbines, solar and wind powered street lights.
In so doing, 4 SKIES is prepared to take the lead role as developer and to arrange for the coordination and execution of the feasibility study and other activities from start to finish. We sincerely hope that all participants will “Dare to Reach” with us to achieve this worthwhile project.
